American are free. Free to choose, free to speak, free to cooperate, among others. Freedom is a fundamental value found in the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence. It is admired world over but sometimes taken for granted by us.
Particularly the part about the freedom to cooperate. Individual freedom can’t be gotten without the cooperation of the people. YES – We, the people. For instance, I don’t have the freedom to speak, if others wouldn’t let me.
In fact, through our freedom to cooperate that other freedoms are possible. This is why the First Amendment guarantees “the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Therefore, when fighting for individual freedom, don’t lose sight of freedom to cooperate. Because without cooperation there is no freedom. Interestingly, the South Korean people demonstrated this point in the recent impeachment of their president.
