Day 4 Week 18 – Yasso 800s?

2 mile warm up + 8 10 x 800 with 1 min. rest + 1 mile cool down, cool 71 degree

My workout today was 8 x 800 meter cruise intervals.  I said “was” because on my way to the track, I realized that for two more intervals I could have done the Yasso 800s, a predictor of marathon performance.  So I went for it.

My interval time were as follows:  3:16, 3:18, 3:23, 3:22, 3:25, 3:25, 3:27, 3:28, 3:25, 3:27.  According to the Yasso 800s, my marathon time would be 3 hours and 28 minutes.  If that were true, that would be a personal record for me.

Of course, many factors influence the race outcome.  The obvious one being the the weather.  I would not hold my breath based on today’s run.  But I am going to continue with the high volume workouts so I will  peak at the Erie marathon.

Take today’s cruise intervals for instance.   The short one-minute break between the intervals ensures my run intensity was close to the lactate threshold and my body gets more efficient in converting the lactate as fuel source.

Have you tried Yasso 800s?
