21 Mile Run – Post Marathon

Ran 21 miles this morning. It took me 3 hours and 49 minutes, about the same duration as my Erie Marathon time.

Sounds crazy?   Nay. It was a loooooong social run in that I was accompanying a fellow SRC member as he trains for his November marathon.

For me, the run also fulfilled two objectives:  1) maintaining my body’s fat burning capacity and 2) transition from my post marathon recovery into regular running.

The first objective is straight forward: the body simply does not have enough glucose and has to convert fat into calories to cover such long distance (weight watchers take note).

The second objective has to do with timing.  It has been about six weeks since I finished my marathon.  While I don’t have another race in mind, glad to be of service in assisting others.

In any events, good to have a goal to get started running again.

How is your running coming?
