The Greatest Show On Earth

Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus closed its curtain on May 21, 2017 after 146 years.  To me, “The Greatest Show on Earth” did not go dark. Instead, it was taken over by Donald J. Trump after he won the US presidential election in the year prior.

Why? You ask.  Well, Mr. Trump may not be good at many things but one thing is certain – he is a good showman.  In that he knows how to draw attention, amorally.  Meaning, he does not care about right or wrong, as long as the outcome draws eyeballs.

Case in point, while being treated for Coronavirus at the Walter Reed Hospital Sunday, Mr.  Trump took a spin in his motorcade for photo-op outside.  He wanted to show that people love their president.  Of course, this was done at the expense of others.

According to Dr. James Phillips, attending physician at Walter Reed, “That Presidential SUV is not only bulletproof, but hermetically sealed against chemical attack. The risk of COVID19 transmission inside is as high as it gets outside of medical procedures. The irresponsibility is astounding. My thoughts are with the Secret Service forced to play.”

It was an opportunity to capitalize on people’s sympathy.  After all, the general election is less than a month away.  Does Mr. Trump care about the men and women of the Secret Service?  You be the judge.

Do you agree Mr. Trump knows how to draw attention?
