What is happening in Texas should be a study for the rest of the country.
The lone star state is the powerhouse of the US. It produces more electricity than any other state, generating almost twice as much as Florida, the second-highest electricity-producing state. (Source)
Be that as it may. The snow storm affecting a large swath of the country from coast to coast is leaving Texas with more than 3 million families and businesses without power (some for the third consecutive days).
Moreover, without power to run the water treatment plants, many local officials are asking folks to boil water before consuming. Which can be a challenge without electricity.
What happened? Some suggested the culprit is Texas Exceptionalism. In other words, the State got too cocky and failed to develop mitigation plans to account for the weather emergency. And now Texans are paying the price.
If that sounds familiar, yes indeed.
Should we put aside our pride and reflect on what our country really needs?
