Waking up from one of my typical dreams could be a real trip. That is because my “typical” dreams usually involve me in a stressful scenario, like in a work context with a task choice between a rock and a hard place. Unpleasant is a charitable way to say it.
Here is one particular dream I had recently. I was delayed to my carpool and ended up looking for a phone number to call to let them know – don’t wait for me. Except, my cell phone was dead, and I couldn’t find the piece of paper with the phone number. My stress meter was rising, and boom, I woke up.
Nightmare it wasn’t, so I was not in a cold sweat. But I was in a tizzy. Even though happy that the whole thing was only a dream, I was nevertheless frazzled. Not ready to jump into my day as such, I needed something to unwind from the dream to clear my mind fog.
A bit unusual, I admit, to feel both my body and mind so wound up first thing. Normally, I would have parted with my dreams and ready to move into the real world. Not this time. Instead, I opted to sit quietly and leaned heavily on my meditation to calm myself down.
How would you wake up alert?
