I pride myself to be in good health. Between running, yoga, and meditation, I kept my mind & body in decent shape. But about a week ago, I developed this incessant coughs that threw me for a loop. Maybe I had become complacent and letting my guard down? In any cases, it was not a pleasant experience.
The feeling was as if these spiders in my windpipe were trying to get out. I would going into these bouts of dry coughs that basically rendered me useless. Just had to let it ride. No holding back. At times, I was coughing so hard that my diaphragm went into spasm. Not fun.
Needless to say my routines were disrupted. That included broken sleeps, broken conversations, even broken runs. My normal 6 mile morning run for instance felt more like a 10 miler. One night, I was so worn, I skipped everything – dinner, dessert and Netflix – and went straight to bed.
Thankfully, I am on the rebound now. My coughs are subsiding. My wife was ready to drag me to the doctor before I became addicted to the cough drops. If there were silver lining to my cough-episodes that is I must take better care of myself, mindfully transition back to normal. Because I sure don’t want to go through it again. It sucks to be sick.
P.S. I know what you are thinking. We had suspected Omicron as well. By the time we got the at-home test kit, the result was negative. Go figures.
