Big Data & Covid-19

Here is the question: what can Big Data, besides recommending the next movie to watch or product to buy, do for us in our fight against the Coronavirus? Supposedly, a lot, according to Bernard Marr,  So I went online to search for some examples in the US.

Of course everyone wishes the Coronavirus pandemic to be over, but it isn’t.  Hate to  be the bearer of the bad news.  But, the silver lining is I did find some good uses of the Big Data in the process. One such example is in the sewage data.

Yes, you read it correctly. Sewage data. Apparently, our poops don’t lie.  The Big Data Analytics is used in wastewater surveillance. It has been effective in detecting diseases such as salmonella and Covid-19 in our wastewater. How ingenious!

Unfortunately, the data show we may be already in the midst of a surge from the Omicron subvariant BA.2.  But the point is that we are harnessing the power of Big Data to fight the pandemic. This application is non-intrusive and quite accurate thanks to the BDA.

Do you think we will be able to detect the next virus before their outbreak?
