In case you missed it, a bill to codify women’s right to abortion failed in the US Senate today. Let’s be clear, the bill titled “Women’s Health Protection Act” was introduced by Senate Democrats with no chance of passing. Why? It’s Politics.
Coinciding with the leaked Supreme Court Draft Opinion, the Democrats want to use this issue to galvanize the suburban women in the upcoming mid-term election. So the vote today although symbolic was political.
What interesting was the play by Senate Republican Leader McConnell on introducing a bill to the opposite – a national ban on abortion. Clearly, with Biden in the White House, it is not going to happen. But again symbolically, there is the presidential election in 2024.
