It was 79-degree Fahrenheit this morning when I finished my long run. Yes! Supposed to be getting a heatwave today in the 95, and 100 tomorrow. So getting a jump on the heat was a necessity.
Many people came out to the C&O Canal Towpath at that hour. Their presence on the trail brought companies as well as interactions. As a minimum, I had to be alert to avoid running into some of them. Literally. But most people were friendly.
Portions of the trail had shades. Having the sun beaming down, a stretch of shades was the respite I needed to re-calibrate my breathes and strides. Especially toward the end, that sun could sap every bit of energy out of me.
Of course, nothing beat an iced-cold watermelon, a summer treat, courtesy of my running group, waiting for me at the parking lot. One bite into it eviscerated my thirst. So very grateful.
How are you surviving the heat?
