Countries that follow the rule of law, which includes the US, would uphold the principle that no one is above the law.
So it’s understandable that the US Department of Justice has appointed Special Counsels to investigate former President Trump and President Biden on their mishandling of classified documents. Granted one can argue the two cases are horses of different colors.
But one thing is clear: mishandling of classified documents is nevertheless a violation of the law, punishable by fine, jail time (no more than 5 years), or both. The law is unambiguous and applies to the president, former president, or mailroom clerk of the United States.
Now, former VP Pence is also getting into the act. All three have ambition on the presidential election in 2024. I could not help but wonder – what were these folks thinking? Executive privilege? Special Privilege? Or just privileged period?
What would the special independent counsels find in each case?
