Sunday’s lunar New Year, a celebratory occasion, turned ugly abruptly in California by a series of mass shootings. These incidents have unfortunately become the norm. Our penitentiaries are filled with violent offenders. But is the issue with the people, our system, or something else?
That’s the question in dire need of answer.
For the problems confronted Californians are only the tip of the iceberg. Solving these problems requires open and frank dialog and not rhetoric pitting one group against another. The later only results in short term compromise and a lose-lose proposition in the long run.
Invariably, these incidents get turned into political weapons such as gun control, race relation, or revenge on justice. But after the hypes, the cycle of violence continues. Isn’t it time we wrestle the narrative away from the media, politicians, and other self-serving groups and focus it on the root cause?
Lastly, I would be remiss if not including two other note worthy events: 1) the US tax filing season opened on Monday. With the IRS augmenting 5000+ employees, don’t know if that’s a good thing or not. And 2) the beautiful trail in Puerto Rico is one I would highly recommend if you get a chance.
Stay safe & have a nice week
