The Right Thing To Do?

The question is straight forward: what is the right thing to do?

The answer however is more complex.

But wait, isn’t the answer: let conscience be your guide?

Yes, but what if your conscience and you compassion are in opposition?

Case in point: Should the banks’ failure be the consequence of their failings?

Why even consider bailing them out?

Isn’t that how market works? Or are the banks too big to fail?

What is the right thing to do?

While you mull that over in your head, the biggest US banks came to the rescue of the First Republic today by contributing a combined $30 billion to tide it over.  Surprised?

Would you break the rule and hug a sick child?
