Headlines like “AI could lead to human extinction” are in my opinion far-fetched. I’m no expert. But one does not have to be to know that artificial intelligence is no human intelligence. It could be better or worse than us depending on the specific task at hand. But at the end, artificial intelligence is still a tool.
However, like all tools, AI could be misused to wreak havoc. Deepfake, spam, and others come to mind. But these are AI being used in unscrupulous ways. No different from gun, car, computer, or any other human developed tools. As such, laws are enacted (or should be) to keep the bad people in check.
I believe that we should call a spade a spade and address the real issue (i.e. human motivation) rather then use the AI as a fearmonger to draw people’s attention and insult their intelligence. If we fail to manage our world including our tools, we have nobody else to blame but ourselves. AI or no AI.
