Sequestered at home by the smothering grip of a heat dome, I’ve once again become an echo of those pandemic days. Except, this time it is not a virus but an unrelenting heat that’s keeping me indoors.
By mid-morning, temperatures had already climbed into the low 80s Fahrenheit and continued to rise. The experience feels hauntingly familiar: empty streets sans bird calls or car sounds. This disquieting stillness is déjà vu and agonizing to say the least.
If there were a silver lining, the forecast projects a relief from the heat within a day or so, unlike during the Covid time. I did not expect this kind of isolation to return so soon. Given the trend of climate change, I shouldn’t be surprised.
Do you think it’s a trade-off between personal freedom and environmental protection?
