How Does That Feel?

The mindfulness technique of channeling emotion into observation helps to prevent our emotion becoming an obstacle. Consider an explosive encounter:  tension rises, blood pressure spikes, and uncertainty amplifies the risk of a fight or flight response.

But, when we tune to these emotional cues, we insert a pause into the automatic stimulus-response loop. How? In observing the signals, identifying triggers, and recognizing biofeedback, we create a space for these reactions to shift from being hijackers of our attention to insights we can learn from.

It does not happen overnight. But it begins with one question: how does that feel? By directing our energy toward observation, we reclaim agency. Through meditation, journaling, or other mindfulness practices, we gradually build the skills to detect, observe, and release tension–allowing space for resolution instead of escalation.

How specific are you tuned in to your emotions?
