Our lives are governed by lots of expectations: social norms, proper etiquette, and common sense like smoking is harmful for your health. Yet, beneath the polished surface, most of us harbor a quiet urge to be spontaneous and take a walk on the wild side. In other words, to break the “rules.”

To be clear, this is not about breaking the laws which entails legal consequences. Breaking the rules is rebellion against the standard. So what if my singing is off-tune or my purple hair looks inappropriate for my age? If it brings me joy, that should suffice.

This is the busting out we yearn. And I believe having freedom in our confined world is beneficial for our mental and emotional well-being. Certainly, it’s a grayish area. So, one must navigate carefully to avoid the straitjacket of social consequences But, a measured release works wonders.
